How is the best way to get to the rear brake lamp switch to adjust it? I can see it but can't get my wrench or fat fingers to it.

My best suggestion, please look at the Carl Leo contact information on the top of every forum and give him a phone call.

He does know the bike inside and out!!!

Welcome to the board.
Here there are no stupid questions. We all ask and help each other maintaining Kawasaki's best kept secret.
And if you have another make of bike, feel free to join as we are all learning from each other, and share your knowledge.
Great bunch of guys here, some with a fantastic knowledge base, and others like me are still learning.

For the XII, Carl Leo is our guru due to his vast knowledge.

What do youn have for a bike?
I have not had to adjust mine yet, not sure the best procedure.

If you can't get a wrench on it as it is a very small space to work in, I have simply just bent the mounting tab slightly and it solved the problem. The adjustment is usually only out a hair. But then a real mechanic would slap you for doing that!! :ha:

Thanks Ken and I have a 88 XII with now just under 6000 miles on it and hello Doug, I think it is going to take quite a bit of adjustment as I have to really have to push the pedal down hard to get the lights to come on. I will fight with that tonight as my bike is naked now for some paint work. BTW the two 14mm bolts in front of the seat really don't have anything with holding the seat down as I found out last night. and they are a real pain to put back in until I thought of taking the bike off the center stand then the holes lined back up. But like they say, you learn something new everyday.

Ok I now have a working brake light on rear brakes, after looking, poking, trying to get pliers or anything to the switch for bout an hour I backed off, drank some Kool-Aid (strawberry), scratched my head and used Doug's method  Took a long screwdriver and a small hammer and with one little tap down on the bracket it was working. Didn't see that method in the book but it worked. Thanks guys once again you came thru

I know this is kind of an old topic, but I have recently noticed that my brake light switch sometimes sticks with the foot pedal so that I'll be driving along with my brake lights on, and when I hit the brakes, there's no change. Kind of dangerous. If I notice it, all I need to do is lift the brake pedal with my toe, and it goes back to normal. Would adjusting the switch help? Or is this a lubrication issue?

Sounds more of a lube problem off hand.. plenty of WD40 on the switch shaft (get both while you are there, and perhaps a re-grease of the foot pedal shaft too..

My sticky brake switch turned out to be adjustment but I would try the WD40 thing first as it is difficult to get to. I like Seafoam better than WD40 though.

I noticed the pots are from 2011, nothing more recent except what is being posted since it came back up

Yes, The count is aware of the problem and I think they are still working on it. Hopefully it can be resolved.
