I would like to offer a repair service for certainly, the Voyager Amps. This may hopefully extend to the Radio and the CB but i need a broken radio in order to gauge just how much of a job is involved and IF I can fix it, for it to act as a Test bed so I dont need to keep taking the fairing off my '94.
The Amp's IC's are still available as are most of the other discrete components.. The only possible difficult part is a small relay but Im sure I can substitute..
I dont want to take my radio out or apart preferably so if anyone has a.n old Radio they wish to part with, please email or PM me.

Amp repair.. Looking at the amp, Im pretty certain that the faults will be easily fixed and cheaper than buying a replacement off ebay etc.. those on Ebay at the moment range from $30 up but the shipping is astronomical. I will be able to fix for less than that..
Shipping will be extra but the amps will easily be flat rate if not less..

My experience? 34+ years in Electronics, Computer repair, GPS, IPod, cell phone LCDs and Ham Radio etc.. Im look after 200+ desktops and 13 servers at work along with my boss.

Current projects include a possible Bluetooth cellphone adapter for the Voyager's intercom which is still in prototype stage at the moment and later on, some brake light modulators which should be cheaper than the commercial offerings..

Very cool. I'm not an electronics guy by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems to me that there should be a way to add an MP3 input (jack on the dash?) either directly into the amp or into the head unit. While you're digging into one of these, can you think about a way that this might be done? I know lots of guys use a cassette adapter, but I'd like to have a direct input jack...

Hi Kevin.. that would be really nice.. Trying not to drill into anything.. The FM transmitters work well and they seem to work better with the Auto Volume control than the cassette.
Im going to brain storm how this would work. If I was to use the intercom circuit the same way as I am using the Bluetooth adapter idea at the moment, then you would have to use headphones..
Hmm Let me think about this and take a look at the radio's circuit diagram. May be able to use the tape circuit.. The difficult thing is getting this to work properly without hacking into the radio physically.. May be able to use the blank 8 pin for the CB.. in teh fairing..

Hey, if things turn out right you could end up being the Carl Leo of Voyager audio!

BTW, Carl may be the one to get that radio from!

Hehehe.. I would never presume to emulate he who, with others, make up all that is Voyager :-)

Actually I have already had an email session with Carl. Great Guy.. And he doesn't know me from Adam .
As I have said before.. The Voyager owners are one hell of a community.. ready to help at the drop of a hat.

I've got one in pretty sad shape if you want it. Didn't when I got the bike and someone along the line tried to fix and gave up. PM me and we can discuss how to get this to you.

I've replaced it with a standard radio, so no worries about getting it back. Now if you ever run across an antenna? I could certainly use one of those.

Yes.. lt looks like I can fix the Radio/Casette players as well and the CB's shouldnt be too much of a problem either.
I can source the belts for he cassette player and also the entire cassette mechanism.
The Radio's components are mostly available still and there is a chance I may be able to fix the backlights in the LCD panel or at least, shoe-horn an alternative illumination source into there.
I will be offering a no fix-no fee service and I'll aways quote before proceeding if the bill is looking like more than $50.

It is great yo can fix the radios. I haven't seen any cassetts for a while.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this thread develops, back in the good old days when portable cd players first came out there used to be a attachment that you could place into the slot that the tape went that allowed you play your music from your portable cd via the radio cassette and I know I have one of these attachments somewhere so thought I was going to be limited to that as my chosen method of CD input, as for output –for me Bluetooth has to be the way forward as I don’t like wires trailing from my helmet.

I have been thinking about getting one of those things that Radio Shack sells that goes into the cassette player so you can plug in mp3 player. Do they work?

Bob, I use my cassette adapter on just about every trip. Works great! If you're in the area sometime, I can demonstrate it for you if you'd like.

I was north of you yesterday and thought about giving you a call but needed to get home.

I might not have been there anyway, LOL. Made a run to the cycle dealer in the a.m. Made a lunch run with a friend to Pomona for some BBQ. Went and looked at a used car with a buddy in the afternoon, and went out for dinner with the family. Didn't get to do anything in the garage until about 7pm.

Apologies for the fact I have posted this on other forums, but thought it was important.

I may well be preaching to the converted here but having now seen several broken Voyager radios thanks to Carl, I can definatly fix display illumination problems and MAY be able to change the colour from Green to blue, red, yellow or plain white.
I'll try an take some pictures when I get the bulb sleeves.. The standard bulb has a green sleeve over it.
Coloured LEDS may be another alternative if I can find one with a decent sideways emission.

HOWEVER.. It appears that if your LCD is dark when the radio is off and you cant see the clock unless you look at a really weird angle, then the LCD is beyond redemption.. The UV from the sun has killed it.. I may have a spare or two LCD boards shortly to replace duff ones, but prevention is the "cure" Not having had my voyager for long, I notice that there used to be a cover to sit over the radio when not in use.. Several of the sites list them as discontinued and I have mentioned to Carl that he may want to dig out any stock he has too ..
If anyone has an alternative to cover the radio when not in use short of draping a cloth over it then please let us know..
