These pictures and narration are from Rick in NYC

Both my 1988 and 1996 VXII have a slight oil leak oil in the vicinity of the oil level sight glass area. I believe the bikes come from the factory with this leak! This oil leak repair took 2 hours and is not too difficult for a person with basic repair skills. Begin by draining oil. Remove bolt next to oil filter cover.
Image
Remove second oil drain bolt in the front of the oil pan. I will not be changing the oil filter.
Image
Remove bolt to drain coolant fluid into clean pan. I plan on re-using it.
Image
Remove 2 bolts holding driver's left foot peg. The peg then moves out of the way.
Image
Exhaust pipes do not have to be removed. Use long 1/4 drive extension with swivil socket to loosen bolt under water pipe mounting flange.
Image
Remove 4 bolts holding water pump cover.
Image
Use screwdriver to separate pipe from water pump cover housing.
Image
Use slip joint pliers to rock the water pump cover out of the pipe.
Image
Water pump cover removed.
Image
Slowly wiggle second half of water pump out of motor by pulling on it.
Image
The water pump is too large for the area and would not come out. Remove 3 mounting bolts and move clutch slave out of the way.
Image
Water pump removed from motor. Note the rust and pitting at the water pipe O-ring connection opening that will be scrapped away. I had a slight coolant drip too and this is possibly the source.
Image
Once the pump is out you can easily see where the oil leak was comming from. What a oily mess!
Image
This is the leaking oil seal. With age it hardened. Engine oil then entered the water pump and leaked out the weep hole. At no time did the oil and coolant mix.
Image
I ordered new oil seal Kawasaki part # 92049-1416 from Carl Leo.
Image
Carl Leo also included new O-ring for water pump and 2 O-rings for water pipe connections. Thanks Carl for your help!

I did not have any more time for this project and I could not finish assembly today. To be continued.....

And now for something completely different, "The Larch" "The Larch". Oh I'm sorry, I meant Castrol Degreaser. Works better than Simple Green.

Not that I'm aware of. Unless Charlie or Rick still have them. You could send them a private message. I haven't heard from either of them in some time though.

This is why I recommend uploading photos directly to the forum. That way they are always here....
